HAMLET
w. Shakespeare
" To be or not to be, --that is the question:--
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? "

In line with the Dept of Education’s OBE system, we are using methods of enhancing the learner’s understanding of, and
approach to, literature by embracing BOAL and TIE principles and techniques with five senior Actor/Facilitators. This highly
successful programme was described as a refreshing approach engaging learners in a more integral way. The success of
our programme lies in actively engaging the learners, provoking them into lively debate and discussion on the themes,
characters and text related to the setwork. We guarantee a programme that is presented in a relaxed, entertaining yet
highly professional manner. Schools requested a content (story)-based programme, especially for 2nd Language learners.
Thus, having identified these needs and demands we are offering the following in 2008.

A Content and Performance-Based programme Scheduling and co-ordination has already started with surveys to all High
Schools in the Western Cape. Bookings will be confirmed by early January.

Comprising a 50min potted version of the play and 30 mins of discussions, examining and analysing text, characters and
themes in context. Provokes and encourages participation through physical warm-ups and some performance that acts
as a trigger for reflection and debate. To be offered in the 2nd Term and 3rd term. Workshops will be presented to Grade
12 learners at the Schools to groups of around 100 learners per workshops. Sessions will last one and half hours including
warm-up, content and Q&A sessions.

A 4-week run in the greater Cape Peninsula area will see in the 4-week Western Cape Tour. Schools in all four Western
Cape regions will be visited. Southern Cape, Overberg, Winelands and West Coast.
Approximately 7,500 learners will benefit from this project
